Hollywood was planned in the 1920s as a resort city between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and its layout still reflects that: several miles of Atlantic beach on a barrier island, the Intracoastal Waterway and two dredged yacht basins right behind it, an older downtown, and broad suburban neighborhoods reaching west toward Pembroke Pines. A large share of the city's homes and condos sit directly on tidal water, in salt air and humidity that never really let up. Water Damage Florida provides water damage restoration in Hollywood 24 hours a day, from the beach to the inland neighborhoods.
Hollywood's storm history is long. The city was among the areas hardest hit by the 1926 Miami hurricane, second only to Miami in losses. During Hurricane Irma in 2017, the strongest sustained wind measured anywhere in Broward County was recorded here, and surge of a few feet reached the beachfront. In April 2023, well over a foot of rain fell on the city, and the June 2024 floods affected it again. If you have water in your home or building now, call (888) 435-4769 and we will start toward you immediately.
An emergency in Hollywood can look very different depending on which side of the Intracoastal you are on. On the beach and along the yacht basins, it is a condo supply line that failed on an upper floor, a slider that let wind-driven rain through, or a king tide that backed up into a ground-floor garage on a sunny afternoon. West of the waterway, in Hollywood Hills, Boulevard Heights or Driftwood, it is more often a water heater, a slab leak in a mid-century house, a roof leak in a summer storm or a street that flooded in a downpour and sent water through the garage.
Our crews come equipped for both: portable extractors and submersible pumps, air movers and dehumidifiers to begin drying on the first visit, and the containment materials needed to protect a building's common areas. In a condominium we trace the water down through the stack and check units that have not yet called. Documentation of moisture readings and photographs begins as soon as we walk in. See our emergency water damage page for a fuller picture of that first response.
Much of Hollywood's single-family housing dates to the city's 1920s founding and its mid-century growth, and the beach is lined with hotels and condominiums. That range shapes how we restore. A house from the founding era may have plaster walls and original wood features that respond well to careful, controlled drying. A mid-century ranch usually has terrazzo or tile over slab, which can be saved if the water beneath is drawn out early, and drywall or plaster on block that holds moisture stubbornly. A beachfront condo adds shared walls, chases and an envelope that cannot be opened.
The sequence does not change with the building. After extraction we map moisture with meters and thermal imaging, remove what will not dry, seal the space and run dehumidifiers and air movers with readings logged daily until every material meets its dry standard. Then we clean and treat what the water category calls for and rebuild. Along this coast, drying by feel is a mistake; salt air and high dew points hide moisture that only a meter will find. Our water damage restoration service page describes the full scope.
Hollywood floods in more than one way. The city warns that seasonal king tides can flood low-lying coastal streets even without rain, and it distributes sand and sandbags ahead of hurricane season for a reason. Storm surge during Hurricane Irma reached beachfront areas along this stretch of coast. Away from the water, the April 2023 event dropped well over a foot of rain on the city, and heavy rain returned in June 2024, overwhelming drainage and putting water into streets, garages and ground floors across neighborhoods that had nothing to do with the tide.
Tide water, basin water and street runoff are all contaminated, and the salt in the first two keeps corroding after it dries. Flood cleanup means removing saturated drywall, insulation, carpet, pad and cabinet bases, cleaning and disinfecting slabs and hard surfaces, and running air filtration until the space is dry. Anything electrical that stood in salt water should be inspected before use. Keep everyone out of the water, and read our flood restoration page and the first 24 hours after a flood guide while you wait.
Repair starts when the readings say the structure is dry. In a Hollywood Lakes or Hollywood Beach home that took tide water, the scope is usually the lowest course of drywall and baseboard, base cabinets, flooring and paint through the affected rooms. In a condo it may be a ceiling and one wall below a plumbing loss, coordinated with the association. In an older home it can mean matching plaster, trim and original details rather than defaulting to replacement, which is often possible when drying began early.
The repair scope comes straight from the mitigation record, so what the water damaged and what was already worn stay clearly separated in the file your adjuster sees. For multi-unit buildings we work within rules on hours, elevator use and protection of lobbies and corridors, and we document each unit on its own so owners and the association each have what they need.
Salt air, year-round humidity and buildings pressed up against tidal water make Hollywood a place where a wet wall does not stay just wet for long. The usual mold sites are the back of the lowest drywall in garages and ground floors that took on tide or street water, the interior of base cabinets after an appliance leak, the drywall behind bathroom tile, the air handler closet, and the shared walls and chases of condominiums where water from an upstairs unit traveled unseen.
We handle mold removal in a fixed order: correct the moisture source, contain the area with plastic and negative air, remove affected porous materials, HEPA-vacuum and clean what remains, and dry the space fully before rebuild. Painting or spraying over growth is not part of it. The mold remediation page explains our statewide method, and our article on hidden mold after water damage is worth a read before you close up any wall that was wet during a storm.
A barrier-island beach, the Intracoastal and yacht basins, older housing stock and a long, wet summer combine to produce the losses we see most often in Hollywood:

From a single wet closet to a flooded ground floor, every Hollywood job moves through the same eight stages in order.
We serve the whole City of Hollywood, from the barrier island and the yacht basins across the Intracoastal to the downtown and the inland neighborhoods reaching toward Pembroke Pines.
The same crews cover the cities around Hollywood on both sides of the county line, and many have their own pages:
These actions are safe for a homeowner or condo resident and will reduce what has to be replaced. Stop at anything that involves flood water or electricity.
For named storms, the hurricane water damage recovery guide explains how to sequence the first week.
It can be. Salt water that stood against the slab and the lowest drywall wicks upward and keeps corroding metal after it dries. A moisture survey tells you whether the wall or stored contents need attention, and it is a small step compared with finding mold at the base of the wall later.
We coordinate with management and the building engineer, follow the water down through the stack, protect corridors and elevators, and document every affected unit separately so each owner and the association have a clean record for their claims.
Usually, if drying begins soon after the loss. The problem is the moisture beneath and around the floor, which we draw out with directed airflow and dehumidification. Original plaster and wood details in older Hollywood homes also often survive controlled drying.
Both are contaminated, so porous materials that got wet are removed rather than dried in either case. Salt water adds a corrosion concern for electrical components and metal fixtures, which we flag for inspection.
In Hollywood's warm, humid conditions, growth on wet drywall or the back of cabinets can begin within a few days. That is why drying starts on the first visit and why we ask you to keep the air conditioning running while you wait.
Yes. Our crews cover Dania Beach, Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Park, West Park, Pembroke Pines, Aventura and North Miami Beach, and we serve the whole state through our service areas.
